Just before 8:30 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Station 5 was dispatched by the Chester County Department of Emergency Services 9-1-1 Communications Center to the 800 block of Cottonwood Road for the report of a fire alarm activation. Engine 5 and Ambulance 5-2 responded to the scene and began their investigation, Engine 5’s crew reported smoke throughout the dwelling and upgraded the assignment to “Smoke in the Building”, requesting mutual aid from the Malvern Fire Company (Station 4), Berwyn Fire Company (Station 2), West Chester Fire Department, Fame Fire Co. No. 3 (Station 53), and the Goshen Fire Company (Station 54/56). Rescue 5 went en route shortly after the upgrade and was requested by Command (Captain 5) to pick up the water supply at the hydrant. After further investigation, Engine 5’s crew found a small fire within the clothes dryer. Engine 5’s crew extinguished the fire and checked for an extension of the fire, after finding no extension, Command held the assignment to Station 5’s apparatus and personnel.
