Frequently Asked Questions
How many calls do you run each year?
On average, the East Whiteland Fire Company responds to about 2000 emergency calls per year.
Do you have women firefighters?
Yes! Women have been involved in nearly every aspect of the fire company since it's inception, serving in a variety of roles from active members (Firefighters, EMTs, and Fire Police) to support functions (such as the Board of Directors and Auxiliary).
Can I burn leaves and brush?
Residents of East Whiteland Township are not allowed to burn leaves or brush at any time. For more information contact the township directly at (610) 648-0600 or contact them via their website at http://www.eastwhiteland.org
Residents of Charlestown Township are allowed to burn leaves and waste papers in an incinerator or proper receptacle approved by the Fire Marshal. For more information contact the township directly at (610) 240-0326 or visit them via their website at http://www.charlestown.pa.us/
Is your company staffed by paid firefighters or volunteers?
Apparatus is staffed by both volunteer and career personnel.
The majority of responders are volunteers, who are members of the East Whiteland Volunteer Fire Association. They are truly the life and body of the organization, not only responding to emergencies but also taking on many other responsibilities such as administrative work, fundraising, community events, etc. Volunteers are fully trained emergency responders, and are certified/licensed to State and National standards. All line officers with the exception of a career-sergeant (Sgt. 5) are volunteers.
Due to limited staffing during the day and a national trend in declining volunteer numbers, the station is supplemented by career Firefighter/EMTs around the clock supplied by East Whiteland Township. These personnel comprise the East Whiteland Township Fire Department and are members of the International Association of Firefighters Union (IAFF), Local 4551. The association also employs several part-time EMTs during the work week (Monday - Friday) to ensure prompt and reliable response to EMS incidents during daytime hours.
Working together hand-in-hand, volunteer and career personnel make up the East Whiteland Fire Company and respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
